Critical Operation & Maintenance

The environmental benefits of a CHP package are achieved because of its high levels of energy efficiency combined with the use of modern engines and turbines that can burn gaseous fuels far more cleanly than older equipment. However, the performance of any CHP package will only remain close to the initial level specified if it is monitored and maintained to the appropriate level. Failure to operate the CHP package correctly, and to maintain it effectively, will not only result in a loss of the expected cost savings: it will also reduce the environmental benefits that can be achieved.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is often reported in terms of mass of carbon (C).To convert from CO2to C multiply by 12/44.

The UK heat map has been developed as a tool aimed at assisting power station developers consider the opportunities for combined heat and power (CHP) as required under planning policy. However it can also be used by both small and large organisations to help identify the locations where CHP, renewable heat plants and district heating would have the greatest technical and economic potential, and therefore the largest positive environmental impact.
